Check URL coverage after a migration
A sitemap diff helps catch pages omitted from a new build, accidental staging URLs and changes in canonical URL format. The tool reads loc and lastmod values from URL sitemaps. It compares URL strings exactly, because slash, hostname and protocol differences can matter for canonical consistency.
What to check in the results
Sitemap index files and remote fetching are not supported here; paste a URL sitemap XML document. The tool does not crawl pages or verify their HTTP status.
For a general line and character comparison, use the text diff tool. The text comparison guide explains a worked example, line counts, and how to keep shared links private.
Common questions
How do I find URLs missing from a new sitemap?
Paste the old sitemap on the left and the new one on the right. URLs marked removed are present only in the old sitemap.
Does this tool treat slashless and trailing-slash URLs as the same?
No. It compares the complete loc values exactly so URL-format changes remain visible.
