Compare two .env files
Paste development and production dotenv files to see missing variable names and changed values without line-order noise. Values are hidden in the results until you reveal them.
Your inputs
Files and pasted text are read locally. Nothing is sent for comparison.

Worked example
Configuration drift
Select Load example above to run this sample in your browser.
Original
API_URL=old endpoint; FEATURE_FLAG=true; SHARED_KEY=secret
Revised
API_URL=new endpoint; NEW_KEY=another value; SHARED_KEY=secret
What the result means: API_URL is marked changed, FEATURE_FLAG removed, and NEW_KEY added. The report lists key names without copying their values.

Find configuration drift without exposing secrets
An ordinary line diff is noisy when variables are reordered. This tool matches valid dotenv key names, ignores blank lines and full-line comments, and flags duplicate keys. It shows which side lacks a key and which shared keys hold different literal values. Processing takes place in your browser; the report copies variable names only.
What to check in the results
Values are compared literally. This is a dotenv file comparison, not a shell interpreter: variable expansion and multiline quoted values are not evaluated. Treat values shown after revealing them as sensitive.
For a general line and character comparison, use the text diff tool. The text comparison guide explains a worked example, line counts, and how to keep shared links private.
Common questions
Can I compare .env files with variables in a different order?
Yes. Variables are matched by key, so reordering lines does not create a difference.
Are secret values included when I download the report?
No. The downloadable report lists keys and whether values differ. The browser shows literal values only when you select Reveal values.
